South Korean auto-major Hyundai's Creta SUV has become a huge success in the Indian market and the SUV has registered 50 percent year-on-year growth in July. The SUV, which was launched in the country in July last year, recorded sales of 13,429 units last month as against 6,783 units sold in July 2015.
The Creta has raked in over 1 lakh bookings in the country within eight months of its launch and the demand is still high. The waiting period of the SUV in some cities still stand at six months. In July, while the domestic sales of the Creta recorded 7,981 units, the export of the model stood at 5,448 units. The Creta is currently one of the best selling UVs in the country with average monthly sales of 7,000 units for the past couple of months.
The Creta is offered in both petrol and diesel-engine options. The 1.6-litre VTVT petrol engine churns out 121bhp and 151Nm of torque, while the 1.6-litre CRDi diesel engine develops 126bhp and 259Nm of torque. Both the engines are available with either six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. The less powered 1.4-litre CRDi diesel unit churns out 89bhp and 220Nm of torque mated to a six-speed manual transmission only. Recently, the company has updated its diesel variants with S+ automatic. The Creta S+ automatic has been priced at Rs. 13.56 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The company will also launch the 1st Anniversary Edition of the Creta SUV in the country to celebrate its anniversary. According to a leaked document, Hyundai Creta 1st anniversary edition will be offered in both 1.6-litre petrol and diesel mills in SX+ variant only. The special edition of the Creta in petrol will be priced at Rs. 12. 5 lakh, while diesel variant will get a price tag of Rs. 14.06 lakh (ex-showroom Gujarat).
