Dozens of people had a providential escape on Wednesday, June 14, as the police lent a helping hand when a lodge caught fire in the Shamshabad area of Hyderabad.

At least "50 persons hailing from different areas of Telangana" were rescued by the cops, according to a Mumbai Mirror report, which quoted the local police as saying that the Sri Anupama residency lodge had caught fire at 5:45 am Wednesday.

The building that caught fire is six storeys high. The fire that hit it on Wednesday is believed to have started on the first floor, and a short circuit is suspected to be the cause. The blaze soon spread to the other floors, trapping several people there.

According to the Mumbai Mirror report, there were 50 people in the lodge when the fire started. "While some of them managed to run out of the building, those on the higher floors remained trapped," it said.

"There have been no casualties [in the fire]," Inspector M Mahesh told The News Minute. "Three fire engines reached the spot in 20 minutes and it took nearly an hour to douse the fire," he added.
