A mob on Monday vandalised a hospital in Hyderabad after a 45-year old woman - Shameem Begum - died during treatment.
In a video that went viral, the family members of the deceased are seen fighting with the police officers and using slanders, creating a ruckus at the hospital.
Gleneagles Global Hospital in Lakdikapul, under Saifabad police limits, was ransacked by the family members of the deceased alleging medical negligence. The violent mob destroyed the premises and damaged the furniture of the hospital.
A Hyderabad police official told International Business Times, India that the attackers are identified as the deceased patient's sons, Mir Ahmed Ali alias Mir Mohiuddin Ali, Mir Barkath Ali, Mir Mustafa Ali and her son-in-law Muhsin. The accused people had beaten up the security personnel of the hospital and also attacked the police officers on duty.
The hospital management stated that the 45-year old was admitted on December 18 and was suffering from Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) and swine flu. The doctors informed the family about the patients deteriorating condition and she died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. This triggered violence and her kin started destroying the place.
The management has lodged a complaint against the attackers at the Saifabad police station, stating that from the second floor to the ground floor the whole area has been destroyed by the criminals, including medical equipment.
The accused are charged under section 148, 332, 353, 427 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and for the first time the police invoked charges under section 4 of Telangana Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act 2008, said a police official.
