A huge fire has devastated a Serbian Orthodox Church in New York City on the day that Orthodox Christians around the world celebrated Easter Sunday.
Over 150 firefighters mobilised to combat the blaze at the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Sava in downtown Manhattan on 1 May, taking several hours to bring the inferno under control.
Video footage, posted online by the New York City Fire Department, show an overhead view of the fire as well as glimpses of fire trucks assembled around the building, which is nearly completely engulfed in flames.
According to a later tweet by the FDNY, there were no immediate injuries in the disaster. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
