Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC has finally released the much-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA (Over-The-Air) update to the 2013 flagship handset, One M7, in select regions.
HTC missed the 1 February deadline for releasing Android 5.0 Lollipop OS update to its carrier variants of M7 and M8; however, better late than never, the company has finally begun rolling out new Google mobile OS (hopefully bug-free) to the developer and unlocked HTC One (M7) models in the US.
Mo Versi, HTC's Vice President (Product Management) confirmed the news on his official Twitter page.
"HTC One (M7) Unlocked and Dev owners! Enjoy the Lollipop update! OTA has been released. #HTCAdvantage" reads the post by Mo Versi.
The new OS update (build version: 7.17.1540.7) is a little over 700MB in size and is expected to bring in Sense v6.0 user-interface, security update, enhanced privacy features, multiple-page support for recent apps, performance tweaks and other improvements, reported AndroidOS.in.
How to install Android 5.0.1 Lollipop OTA update:
If HTC One M7 owners are getting the update notifications, then they must select "Yes, I'm in" option >> then, after downloading, select >> "Install now". The phone will restart automatically and the OS will be updated to the new version.
We like to remind our readers that the OTA updates are released in stages, so it may take a while - probably a few weeks - to reach all other regions.
Users can also check manually by going to Settings >> About phone >> System update.
As of now, Android 5.0 is released to 2014 marquee phone HTC One M8 in select regions aceoss the world including India. We believe the company will deploy the new OS update for HTC One M7 in the subcontinent very soon.
