Buoyed by the huge success of its 2013 marquee smartphone, HTC One, the Taiwanese firm has released a gold hued variant in Europe.
"Building on the all metal design of the HTC One, and the recent success of the HTC 18 carat gold MOBO phone, we are excited to have developed our own gold device, offering yet more choice to consumers", said Philip Blair, President, HTC EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) region.
The new HTC One variant features a gold painted aluminium body, unlike the custom-made 18-carat MOBO device or the 24-carat pure gold plated HTC One, which is sold by UK jeweler Gold Genie for £1579.17(around ₹1,59,000). The price of the official HTC One gold model (unlocked) is yet to be revealed by the company, but one can expect a new variant carrying a price-tag of around £432 (₹43,500) or less.
London based Gold Genie also offers HTC One in pure 'platinum' and 'rose gold' variants for £1745.83(₹1,75,750) and £1662.50(₹1,67,350) respectively. The company is also known to sell customised pure gold plated Apple iPhones, iPads, BlackBerry phones as well.
Since its launch in March, the Taiwanese firm has released four HTC One coloured variants - Silver White, Misty Black, Vivid Blue and Glamour Red.
Apart from the glossy gold texture, the new variant packs pretty much the same specifications as other HTC One variants. It sports a 4.7-inch Super LCD 3 screen with 1920x1080p display resolution and has pixel density of close to 468 ppi (pixel per inch).
HTC One runs on the Android v4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS out-of-the-box (now v4.3 made available via OTA) and packs Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 series quad-core processor with 1.7GHz CPU speed with 2GB RAM and 32GB/64GB internal memory.
As of now, there is no official word on whether the company would release the gold hued HTC One variant in India or any other regions, apart from Europe.
The craze for a gold hued smartphone began with the Apple iPhone 5S launch in September this year. Arch rival Samsung followed suit by bringing in Galaxy S4 limited Gold edition in the Middle East market in the same month.
