One of the hottest on-screen couples of Bollywood, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kappoor, will reunite once again for Karan Johar's upcoming venture "Shuddhi" after a gap of 10 years.
The duo who were last seen together in Sooraj Barjatya's 2003 film "Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon" have also co-starred in movies like "Yaadein," "Mujhse Dosti Karoge!" and "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
According to reports, the two stars stayed away from each other after rumours of their linkup started making rounds in tinsel town.
Karan Johar had earlier announced that the male lead in his upcoming film, which will be directed by Karan Malhotra, will be played by Hrithik. He did not go into the details of his female lead then.
Rumours began surfacing that Karan had approached close friend Kareena to sign her up for "Shuddhi" for which Deepika Padukone was also considered.
Earlier, director Karan Malhotra had also hinted that the leading lady opposite Hrithik could also be Padukone. "They (Kareena and Deepika) are the finest actresses today. So when you write a script, they are the first names that come to mind... The moment the actor gets finalised, I will be able to talk in detail," Karan Malhotra told Hindustan Times.
"Shuddhi" which means "purification" will mark the comeback of the successful trio Hrithik, producer-director Karan Johar and Karan Malhotra who gave one of the biggest hits of 2012 "Agneepath." The movie was among the list of top ten grossers of 2012.
"Shuddhi" is expected to go on floors in November 2013 and the movie will hit theatres on the occasion of Diwali in 2014.
Speaking about the movie and its release date Karan Johar said, "These days it is very important to have the release date in order. Shuddhi is a love story at its heart and with Hrithik's intensity, he will be seen in a completely different avatar than in Agneepath," reported Mid-Day.
"This is a big budget film and with its theme and qualities and the vision that we have, it warrants a celebration period like Diwali for its release."
