Reports of Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut's legal battle to be closed by the Mumbai police's cyber crime cell due to lack of any evidence made headlines on Thursday, November 17.
A Mumbai Mirror report said that the forensic probe into the private emails, which Kangana claims Hrithik sent to her, contrary to what the latter believes to be the handiwork of an impostor, had failed to draw any conclusion.
However, Hrithik's lawyers said that the case has not closed yet. Mahesh Jethmalani-led legal team that represents Hrithik has released a statement to the media stating that the reports of the case being closed is misleading and that the police are investigating in the matter.
The statement read: "Media reports which suggest that the investigation into the Hrithik - Kangana emails is closed, are totally false. A section of the media in connivance with Ms. Ranaut's lawyer have sought to disseminate this false information. The investigation in fact continues and Mr. Saxena (Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime) has informed Mr. Mahesh Jethmalani, Senior Counsel advising Mr. Roshan that " the case is not yet closed. Investigation is still going on." It is categorically asserted that there is unimpeachable evidence to suggest that there was no relationship of any kind between Mr. Roshan and Ms. Ranaut and that Ms. Ranaut persistently hounded Mr. Roshan on emails with the intention to entice him into a relationship."
The Mumbai Mirror report said that the police's forensic department have now submitted a "NIL report," which means that the police were unable to confirm if hroshan@email.com was indeed a fake account through which the private emails were exchanged. Sanjay Saxena, joint commissioner of police, Crime Branch, told the daily: "We have been unable to find anything on the mail ID as the server is located in the US. Now it is very difficult to ascertain who was using the account. Still, we will try to conclude [the case] from the available evidence."
The differences between the Kaabil actor and Kangana came out in open when the actress in an interview with an entertainment portal, referred to the actor as a "silly ex." To which, Hrithik took to his Twitter handle to deny the news of having dated the actress. He later sent Kangana a notice, demanding an unconditional apology for the defaming remark. Hrithik defended himself saying that they were never in a relationship and an impostor using his name was communicating with her from the email ID.
