Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan has finally put months-long speculation to rest by announcing his separation from wife Sussanne.
In a media statement released on Friday, the Indian heartthrob revealed that the couple has called it quits, ending their 17-year-long relationship.
"Sussanne has decided to separate from me and end our 17-year relationship. This is a very trying time for the entire family and I request the media and the people to grant us our privacy at this time," read a statement from the "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara" actor.
"I do not wish this news to disempower my fans and the people about the institution of marriage in any way. I am a firm believer in this institution and respect and honour it at the highest level. I thank my fans for all the concern and prayers for my health. My treatment is going fine. I should be able to resume my life in every way very soon," he added.
The news of Hrithik's separation from Sussanne has come at a time when the media has been abuzz over the ongoing tension between the two. It was widely reported that there was trouble in the paradise when Sussanne left the Roshan's home and moved to her parents' house. But the family tried to downplay the rumour, citing Sussanne's father's ill health.
Recently, she made a brief appearence at Rakesh Roshan's birthday party, and questions were raised on her blink-and-miss presence at the star-studded event.
Hrithik had married Sussanne, daughter of yesteryear actor Sanjay Khan, back in 2000. The couple was dating for years, before they tied the knot. The duo have two sons Hrehaan, 7, and Hridhaan, 5.
