Films such as "3 Idiots", "The Dirty Picture" and "Mr India" proved to be blockbusters in Hindi film industry and the actors were appreciated for their mind-blowing performances. But these were not the ones who were offered the films first.
From "Bang Bang" to "Karan Arjun", actors who were approached first rejected the roles which turned out to be a boon for others who accepted it. Recently, Saif Ali Khan rejected a film named "Mr Chaalu" due to remuneration issues with producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. But, then, there are reports that Shahid Kapoor has been finalised for the role.
"Shahid recently got a narration. He has responded positively to the story as it's the kind of character that he hasn't done in a while. The makers are now locking the dates for workshops that will start soon," Mumbai Mirror quoted a source as saying.
Similarly, there are other actors whose loss became someone else's gain.
"3 Idiots"
One of the biggest grossers of the Indian film industry, "3 Idiots" was rejected by Shah Rukh Khan. Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra offered the film first to SRK, but after his rejection the proposal went to Aamir Khan.
On the other hand, Kajol was offered the role of 'Pia' in the film, but the diva rejected it. Later, the character was donned by Kareena Kapoor Khan.
'The Dirty Picture'
Kangana Ranaut, who has given many blockbuster hits and is now one among the good actresses, rejected Vidya Balan's "The Dirty Picture."
'Bang Bang'
Director Siddharth Anand of "Bang Bang" first approached Shahid Kapoor for the film, but later finalised Hrithik Roshan. Apparently, Kapoor's "Haider" and "Bang Bang" were going to release on the same date.
'Finding Fanny'
It is true that Deepika Padukone was perfect for the character 'Angie' in "Finding Fanny." But, unfortunately, she was not the first choice as it was initially offered to Sonam Kapoor who rejected it.
'Barfi!'
Katrina Kaif has turned down many prominent roles opposite A-list actors. She rejected the role of Ileana D'Cruz in the film "Barfi!", and also turned down blockbuster hits – "Chennai Express", "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" and "Ram-leela."
"Mr India"
Surprisingly, "Mr India" was written keeping Amitabh Bachchan in mind but the megastar rejected it. Thus, Anil Kapoor was finalised for the film, which became a landmark movie in his career.
'Dostana'
Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra got a boost to their respective careers because of "Dostana." Apparently, her glamorous role in the film was first offered to Aishwarya but she rejected the role, which went to PeeCee.
'Rockstar'
Diana Penty was considered a promising actress who vanished from film industry after her first film "Cocktail" which was a blockbuster. Viewers could have seen her much before if she would have accepted the offer of "Rockstar", which later went to Nargis Fakhri.
'Karan Arjun'
The old-time blockbuster "Karan Arjun" gave a jump in both Shah Rukh and Salman Khan's career. The duo is still referred to with these names. But, initially, there were rumours that Ajay Devgn was doing the film who walked out the film due to creative differences.
'Sholay'
"Sholay" without Big B cannot be imagined. But, few people know that the film was first offered to Shatrughan Sinha, who refused to do it.
Others
Apart from these, "Bhool Bhulaiyaa" was offered to Rani Mukerji but she refused and it went to Vidya Balan. And "DDLJ" was offered to Saif Ali Khan and "Dil To Pagal Hai" to Juhi Chawla for Karisma Kapoor's role.
Similarly, "Kal Ho Na Ho" to Kareena, "Bunty Aur Babli" to Hrithik Roshan, "Hum Tum" to Vivek Oberoi, and Rani's role in "Kuch Kuch Hota Hain" was offered to Twinkle Khanna.
