Install OxygenOS and re-root your OnePlus One Smartphone: How toIBTimes India

OnePlus has finally released its own OS for the OnePlus One users. But unlike many other smartphone makers, OnePlus has rolled out the update via sideloading option. Named OxygenOS, the OS is functionally very similar to the existing Cyanogen 11 and inherits the superior features of Android Lollipop.

Though the latest edition of Cyanogen -- CM12s -- is available for OnePlus One smartphones, it has few bugs and glitches. If you are suffering from any, our suggestion is to install the OxygenOS on your phone. Here is the step by step guide.

Pre-Requisites

  • Ensure your Oneplus One smartphone has either TWRP or ClockWorkMod custom recovery pre-installed.
  • Ensure your Oneplus One battery has at least 70% of battery charge left.
  • Enable the USB Debugging option from System>>Developer Option and enable the USB debugging option.
  • Take a back-up of all your necessary data because after the downgrade all the device data will get flashed.

If your smartphone doesn't have any recovery installed, here's the process-

ADB Installation Guide

  • Download the ADB file  Here.
  • Download the TWRP file from Here.
  • The ADB link will download the entire Android SDK on your computer. Once finished, find the ADB files under the Platform Tools folder.
  • Extract the file on your Desktop and rename it with a meaningful name, for example, adb, Android or OPO.
  • Download the OnePlus One driver files from here. The driver files are responsible to download the appropriate files for you.
  • Switch off your OnePlus One smartphone and boot into the Fastboot mode by pressing and holding the power and volume down button together.
  • Locate the ADB folder and open it. Open the Command Window from there by pressing and holding the Ctrl and Shift keys together and right click.
  • Once the command terminal opens, type fastboot oem unlock

TWRP Installation Guide

Place the TWRP files into the ADB folder and reboot the device again into fastboot mode by using the above told method. Type the following command

Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

OxygenOS Step by Step Installation Guide

  • Download the OxygenOS ROM file from Here.
  • Copy the OxygenOS ROM file on your OnePlus One's root folder. Once the file gets copied successfully, again turn on the device in fastboot mode by there by pressing and holding the Ctrl and Shift keys together and right click. You will see the TWRP boot screen launch menu.
  • Now click on Wipe>>Advance Wipe. Inside the menu locate System>>Data and tap on Swipe to confirm wipe.
  • Once the process is done, keep clicking the back menu until the Install menu appears on screen.
  • Locate the OxygenOS file on the root folder of your smartphone. Click on swipe to confirm.
  • The process will be longer than you usually expect, so be patient until the Successful prompt appears on screen.
  • Now click on the wipe cache and Dalvik appears at the bottom left of the screen. And click on Reboot System.

Re-Root the Smartphone

  • Once the OxygenOS gets successfully installed on your OnePlus One smartphone, you need to re-root the smartphone for the root access of the smartphone.
  • Download the SuperSU v2.48 (alternate link) on the computer and copy the zip files to the root folder of your smartphone.
  • Restart the device into Recovery Mode by following the above told method.
  • Once the device restarts in TWRP mode, tap on install button and then locate the SuperSU file you have just transferred. Click on Swipe to Confirm.
  • Now click on the wipe cache and Dalvik appears at the bottom left of the screen. And click on Reboot System.
  • Now reboot the system again and you smartphone should now be rooted with OxygenOS.
