Akshay Kumar-starrer "Housefull 3" is shattering records at the box office. In just five days, the comedy-drama broke lifetime collection records of several Bollywood releases of this year to become the sixth highest grosser at the box office.
The Sajid-Farhad directorial minted Rs. 68.63 crore in its five days run from the domestic box office. The film recorded a good opening weekend and managed to maintain a good hold during the weekdays. On Monday, the business of the film declined by 45 percent compared to its opening day and on Tuesday, the collection dropped by 14 percent.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said that the Akshay-starrer is rock steady at the box office and tweeted the five-day break-up of the film. ""#Housefull3 is ROCK-STEADY on Tue... Fri 15.21 cr, Sat 16.30 cr, Sun 21.80 cr, Mon 8.25 cr, Tue 7.07 cr. Total: ₹ 68.63 cr. India biz."
"Housefull 3," which was released in India in more than 3,700 screens, broke the record of last year's comedy film "Pyaar Ka Punchama 2," which earned Rs. 64.1 crore in its lifetime run. "Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2" was one of the most commercially successful films of 2015.
The Akshay-starrer also broke the records of Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone's movie "Tamasha." Ranbir-Deepika starrer "Tamasha" earned Rs. 67.26 crore.
"Housefull 3" has been running successfully in theatres because of the positive reviews from the moviegoers. Trade analysts have said that the film is a laugh-riot, which is one of the reasons for its box office success.
"Housefull3 was a complete joy ride for me. There were humungous expectations with the franchise and the film lived up to it. To remain smiling for 2 hours nonstop is no small feat. Don't look for logic, it offers plenty of laughs, just enjoy the ride," a trade analyst said in a statement.
"The laughs, the whistles, the hysteria, single screens are going houseful everywhere , audiences can't get enough of the unadulterated humour . It's like a celebration in theatres," Manoj Desai, executive director of G7 Multiplex, Maratha Mandir Cinema, said.
"It's been a while since we have seen audiences flocking to theatres in such a big way. Housefull 3 has created that kind of frenzy and the word of mouth is super . The verdict is unanimous. People across age group are loving and we are confident that the film will have a spectacular run at the box office," Kamal Gianchandani, president PVR Cinemas, concluded.
Directed by Sajid-Farhad, "Housefull 3" features Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri and Lisa Haydon in the lead roles. The comedy-drama also has Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff and Chunky Pandey in pivotal roles.
