Honda Cars India is all set to launch a slew of cars in 2016 and 2017 to increase its sales to the targeted 3 lakh by the end of financial year 2017. One of its newest launches will be a crossover based on the Jazz hatchback.

Honda Cars India is currently working on the crossover based on the Jazz hatchback platform, reports ET Auto. It is internally called 2FM, and will be launched by January 2017. The Jazz-based crossover will come with an SUV stance, and its premiere will be held at Sao Paolo Motor Show in Brazil in November 2016.

The report says Honda is expecting a monthly average sale of 5,000 units of the new crossover, with production commencing in December. That number makes it clear the Japanese company is expecting volume sales from the new crossover.

The new crossover is expected to carry over the same engines of the Jazz hatchback. It packs the 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that powers the Amaze and the Brio. It can generate power of 90bhp with a torque of 110Nm at 4,800rpm. The other engine, a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel motor, can pump 100bhp of power and 200Nm torque.

Honda Cars India just launched the Amaze facelift for a starting price Rs 5.29 lakh. The Japanese company is all set to expand its line-up with the BR-V SUV, unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016. The BR-V will be launched by May-end, and the Accord and the City facelift will enter India in the festive season this year.
