Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) has been working on many new motorcycles and scooters for 2016, and one of the new models will get the name 'Navi.' The company in its New Year greetings, posted on social media forums, teased a picture with the word 'Navi' highlighted in a different font.
The picture is followed with the caption "2016 will bring in new ideas, new concepts. There's something amazing brewing at our side. Visit the Auto Expo 2016 in Feb."
Many industry reports claim that the two-wheeler under the brand name Navi will be a 125cc scooter that will be premium over the current Activa 125. In the 125cc scooter segment, HMSI has only one model on offer and that fuels the possibility of a new 125cc scooter, which will be trendier and stylish. The scooter is expected to compete against the Vespa range, and hence might be pricier.
In addition to the premium styling, the 125cc scooter will have bigger tyres and more storage capacity reports MotorOctane. The scooter is likely to share the engine with the Activa 125. The 124.9cc aircooled engine develops 8.6bhp at 6,500rpm and 10.12Nm of torque at 5,000rpm that helps the Activa 125 reach a claimed top speed of 85kmph. The numbers are expected to be higher for the new Scooter and rest of the details will only be divulged at the Auto Expo 2016.
The Japanese company is expected to launch many scooters and motorcycles in 2016. Keita Muramatsu, President and Chief Executive at Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI), on 14 December, said that the company will roll out the refreshed models of its existing product line-up in the country next year and will launch one product every month.
