A new image of Honda Civic hatchback is doing the rounds on the Internet, fuelling speculation whether an India launch is on the cards.
Folks at Gaadiwaadi have managed to capture the Civic hatchback on camera outside the company's Tapukara facility in Rajasthan. The prototype of Civic hatchback was Europe-specific version and was seen with left-hand steering. The interesting bit of the spy shot is that the car was spotted with no hint of camouflage.
While Honda had earlier said that the company has no plans to re-launch the Civic model in India, it could be assumed that the pictured unit may have been imported into the country for R&D purposes. Honda withdrew the Civic from the Indian market in 2012 owing to poor sales. Honda civic lacked a diesel engine in India and this led to slow down in sales. It is not sure if Honda is looking at re-introducing the Civic in India. If this rings true, the Civic may come equipped with diesel engine this time.
In India, the next Honda model, which is going to be out of the block is the new Jazz. It will be launched in both diesel and petrol options in its new avatar in July. Under the hood, the petrol Jazz is likely to pack the same 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that powers Amaze and Brio that can generate power of 87bhp with a torque of 110Nm at 4,800rpm. The diesel Jazz is expected to pack 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel motor that can pump 100PS of power and 200Nm torque.
