The all-new fourth generation Honda City, along with its first ever diesel variant, will land on Indian shores on 7 January 2014.
The car, which received a global unveiling at national capital New Delhi in November, will hit the Indian roads in three variants: petrol, CVT petrol and diesel. The City, which has been part of the domestic auto market for a long time, is expected to be priced aggressively as competition in the sedan segment is getting high.
The 2014 City follows Honda's new design philosophy - "EXCITING H DESIGN!!!" - and is based on the 2014 Jazz/Fit. The petrol version of the City sedan packs a 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine which churns out a power of 119 PS @ 6600 rpm and 145 Nm torque @ 4600 rpm. The diesel variant comes with a 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine, which is also used in the Honda Amaze. It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and pumps in 100 PS power @ 3600 rpm and 200 Nm torque @ 1750 rpm. The petrol model of City will come in two variants: 5-speed manual and automatic. The petrol model will also be offered with the a CVT automatic gearbox.
The diesel variant of the Honda City is touted as the country's most fuel efficient car, as the car offers a fabulous 26kmpl mileage. Honda's dealerships across the country have started accepting bookings for the upcoming sedan; however the pricing of the car is yet to be revealed by the company. According to reports, Honda will announce the cost of the car at the launch.
The folks at Autocar India, citing a source, revealed that the upcoming City sedan will come in five trims: E, S, SV, V and VX. The report further said that all five variants of City diesel will pack safety features like ABS, EBD and a driver airbag as standard, and the SV, V and VX trims will support touchscreen controls for the air-con system.
Earlier reports had suggested that the latest generation of Honda City would pack features like a new touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth telephone connectivity and USB/Bluetooth and rear-parking camera support, steering mounted audio controls, sun roof, touch-screen AC panel, start/stop function, rear AC vents, eight speakers, four charging points, and cruise control.
