Honda Cars India's President and CEO Katsushi Inoune confirmed in October that the company is planning to launch the BR-V compact SUV to India in 2016. Honda has been launching the compact SUV in many South East Asian countries of late. The new TVC for the Malaysian market give comprehensive details of the vehicle, which is also considered as one of the important launches in India 2016.
Honda states the design of the BR-V is based on the theme 'active solid motion'. The compact SUV comes with signature thick single chrome slat grille, which is now signature design bit of Honda cars. The prominent grill is flanked by projector headlamps with LED strip light. The fog lamps have got chrome housing. The BR-V also features roof rails, electrically folding ORVM with turn indicators. The aero kit adds front, rear and side under spoiler, rear roof spoiler, heat rejecting green tinted glass and 16-inch alloy wheels.
The interior is spruced up with sporty dashboard in all black colour theme. The LED instrument cluster gets blue back light. The center of the dashboard gets a 6.1-inch audio visual system, which can be connected to smart phone. Honda claims a class-leading, spacious and comfortable cabin with additional knee room and head room.
BR-V is powered by a four-cylinder, 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that develops 120bhp at 6,600rpm and 145Nm at 4600rpm. This is the same engine that also does duty in the Honda City. The engine will be mated to a new 6-speed manual transmission and a CVT automatic transmission is also on offer. When the car comes to India, a diesel engine option can also be expected. This engine is likely to be the 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine, which is employed in most of the diesel cars offered by Honda in India.
