Honda Activa did it again. Sales of Activa have surpassed the sales of its Hero Splendor again in July, third time in less than 11 months to become the country's best selling two-wheeler model.
Activa, the flagship model of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India's (HMSI), have always been the scooter lovers' favourite since its entry into the Indian market.
The scooter first snatched the top position from Hero Splendor last September and then repeated the history in March this year and now again in July.
In July, Honda sold 1,91,883 units of Activa, achieving 64 percent year-on-year growth from last year. The Hero Splendor sales in last month stood at 1,65,779. Earlier, Activa surpassed Splendor in the country with the sales figure of 1,41,996 units in September 2013 and 1, 77,928 units in March 2014.
"We are excited that Activa has once again become the highest selling two-wheeler of India. This is more significant since an automatic scooter displaced a motorcycle for numero uno position in Indian two-wheeler industry. This clearly indicates that Activa is exponentially getting acceptance as the most preferred choice of 2-wheeler for commuting," Motoroids quoted Yadvinder S Guleria, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India.
Honda Activa, which started its India journey in 2001, is currently available in 110cc and 125 cc variants in the country. The Activa 125, the range-topping model, entered the market in April and has been getting tremendous response since then.
It is powered by a 125cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke engine, which can churn out a power of 8.6bhp at 6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 10.12 Nm at 5,500 rpm and comes mated to a V-Matic CVT transmission.
Activa 125 promises a fuel efficiency of 60-65 kmpl and is offered in two variants - Standard (with drum brakes) and Deluxe (disc brakes & alloys). Activa 125 Standard carries a price tag of ₹56,607(ex-showroom, Mumbai) and the Deluxe Variant is priced at ₹62,588 (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
