Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has done it again. The company has sold over 10 lakh Honda Activa scooters in the first five months of the financial year 2015-16.
Activa, the model that has dominated the scooter market in India for the past couple of years, contributes to over 51% of the total sales for the company. During the period April to August 2015, Honda sold 10, 01,350 units of Activa.
"The over 1 million sale-mark makes Activa the largest selling two-wheeler in the country. April through August, we've sold 1,001,350 Activas, registering a growth of 20 per cent over the previous year. Not just that the Activa volume has grown 20 times that of the two-wheeler industry," Yadvinder Singh Guleria, senior vice president for sales and marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, told PTI.
Recently, HMSI achieved another landmark, selling one crore Honda Activa scooters.
The Honda Activa has been on Indian roads since 2001 and is currently available in three models - Activa 3G, Activa i and Activa 125. While the Activa 3G and the Activa i are powered by a 109.2 cc motor, the Activa 125 comes powered by Activa 125 124.9 cc engine.
HMSI has said it sold over 2.1 million units in the financial year 2014-15.
