Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) has set yet another record in India with its popular Activa models continuing its hold on the country's two-wheeler market.
According to the emerging sales data, Honda Activa, a much preferred choice among scooters in India, has become the number 1 selling two-wheeler model in India in the 12 months ending March 2015 with a sales figure of around 207,270 units. Interestingly, Activa is the only automatic scooter that featured in 'the top 10 two wheelers in India by sales' list.
"This achievement is more significant since Activa (an ATSC) has displaced a motorcycle for the numero uno position in the Indian two-wheeler industry. In the journey of becoming India's No.1 selling two-wheeler, Activa has broken the glass ceiling as the only ATSC to feature in the top-10 selling two-wheelers in India," Economic Times quoted Yadvinder S. Guleria, senior vice president (sales and marketing), Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India.
Honda Activa, which started its India journey in 2001, is currently available in 110cc and 125 cc variants in the country. The Activa 125, the range-topping model, entered the market in April and has been getting tremendous response since then. Recently, company also added 3G Activa, in the Activa line-up with features like combined braking system, full metal body, tubeless tyres, keylock shutter and maintenance-free battery.
