The dawn of 2016 saw long-time best-selling two-wheeler of India, Hero Splendor range, losing its numero uno position to the Honda Activa scooter range. After overtaking Splendor in January, Activa retained the position for nine consecutive months. However, Hero Splendor fought back in October to regain the top spot.
The Hero Splendor range found 254,813 takers in October, while Honda sold 250,681 Activas, about 4,000 units less than the former, according to data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Both Hero Splendor and Honda Activa reported a year-on-year increase of eight percent and six percent, respectively.
Splendor is also the largest selling motorcycle brand of Hero and till date the company has sold close to 29 million units in India.
Hero's HF Deluxe is the third best-selling two-wheeler for October. The company sold 133,986 units of the HX Deluxe against the 107,294 units in October 2015, registering 25 percent growth. Surprisingly, TVS XL Super took the fourth position in the list for the first time. The moped sold 87,746 units last month against 65,241 units in October 2015, thereby witnessing year-on-year growth of 34 percent.
Hero Passion is the fifth best-selling two-wheeler. However it saw a decline in sales of nine percent compared to October 2015. It sold 87,489 units in October 2016. Honda CB Shine is at the six spot and it has also registered negative growth. Sales of CB Shine decreased eight percent from 90,168 units to 82,753 units in October 2016.
Hero Glamour found 75,320 takers and recorded 21 percent sales growth in October 2016. Positioned at the eighth spot, Bajaj Auto sold 63,287 units of Pulsar which is 10 percent down. TVS Jupiter, ranked ninth in the list, sold 63,014 units in October 2016 and registered three percent growth in sales.
Bajaj Platina secured the last spot with a sales jump of 60 percent to 50,531 units in October 2016.
