The anticipation towards Nokia phones is growing by the day, especially for the iconic Nokia 3310 which has been brought back to life by HMD Global. While the new Nokia series smartphones are set to go on sale in select markets this month, it looks like India will too have a launch date for the phones soon enough.
HMD Global has reportedly sent out media invites for a gathering with the startup's chief product officer, Juho Sarvikas, on May 8. The invite is pretty cryptic and does to detail what the meeting is all about. But anyone could guess that there will be India-specific information for the Nokia phones, which include the Nokia 3310, Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6.
Nokia 3310 is of keen interest among Indian fans, who had a great liking towards the original 3310 for its long lasting battery, sturdy build and cheap price. Last month, the handset suddenly appeared on one of the Indian retail sites, Only Mobiles, for Rs. 3,899 and listed the pre-orders to begin May 5 onwards. But the Finnish startup, which now owns the decades-old Nokia brand, denied any credibility of the listing.
But it appears the startup is ready to reveal the launch date of its Nokia 3310 and the rest of the Nokia smartphone lineup in India on Monday.
In the meantime, Nokia is also hosting a contest on Instagram, where it is offering a chance to all the designers and creators to come up with an artwork for the Nokia 3310. The submissions must be made to Nokia's official Instagram page with the hashtag #3310art before May 10. HMD Global will choose the best artwork and sell the phone with customized outlook in addition to the bright colours it has in the portfolio.
It is an interesting year for smartphone enthusiasts. Nokia is clearly one of the phone brands that consumers are eagerly looking forward to this year. In India, the wait doesn't seem too long after all.
