Hindi Medium box office collection: Irrfan Khan's film emerges triumphant in week 2; set to beat Half Girlfriend

Shraddha Kapoor-Arjun Kapoor's Half Girlfriend and Irrfan Khan's Hindi Medium clashed at the box office on May 19. Hindi Medium proved that solid content emerges triumphant at the box office, and did amazing business in the second week.

Though Mohit Suri's Half Girlfriend had a better opening than Irrfan's movie, the second week's figures tell a different story. In the first week, Half Girlfriend earned Rs 49.19 crore, while the second week earnings stood at Rs 9.52 crore.

On the other hand, Hindi Medium's collection during the first week was Rs 25.21 crore, and it made Rs 20.88 crore in the second week. Irrfan Khan's film, which got fewer screens initially, now has a count of 773 screens.

Half Girlfriend:

"#HalfGirlfriend [Week 2] Fri 1.76 cr, Sat 2.01 cr, Sun 2.35 cr, Mon 1 cr, Tue 90 lakhs, Wed 80 lakhs, Thu 70 lakhs. Total: ₹ 55.31 cr," he tweeted.

It seems Mohit Suri failed to create the magic he is known for with Half Girlfriend. Trade experts have predicted that Half Girlfriend's average performance at the box office may affect its business in the upcoming weeks and may also result in it being removed from many theatres across the country.

Irrfan's movie received good word-of-mouth publicity from the audience and critics alike. The fact that it deals with a social issue and everyone can connect with the story worked in its favour. Irrfan, Saba Qamar and Deepak Dobriyal garnered appreciation for their performances in the film, which deals with the issues plaguing the education system in India.
