US Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton took aim at possible Republican rival Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Brooklyn, New York, on 5 April.
The fellow whos from New York, I wish hed get out of one of his towers and actually walk the streets and spend time with the people of this city, she said to her audience. Because peddling prejudice and paranoia is not the New York way.
Trump, a New York real estate mogul, has called illegal immigrants from Mexico criminals and rapists and has also pushed for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States. Clinton told rally-goers not to be misled regarding Trumps recent comments on abortion.
In a 30 March interview, the Republican front-runner said that if abortion were illegal, women who end pregnancies could face punishment. He later reversed himself to say doctors who provide abortions should be held responsible.
Trump may be the most outrageous of the Republicans; he is saying what all of them believe, Clinton said. They want abortion to be illegal and they do want to punish women and doctors. He just committed the sin of actually telling people what they believe.
New Yorks primary nominating contests will be held on 19 April.
