American Singer and actress Hilary Duff announced her separation from husband Mike Comrie on Friday.
Duff's representative confirmed the separation to E!News and said: "They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other's lives. They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son (Luca), and ask for privacy at this time."
Post the confirmation, the "Lizzie Mcguire" star tweeted, "Mike and I are sitting here, we are so appreciative for all of your kindness & well wishes. Not an easy day but we're getting thru it together."
Duff and Comrie have been married for three years and have a 21-month-old son named Luca.
The news of the couple's split comes as a shock since the duo was spotted together on New Year 's Eve, and was also seen spending time as a family time on Tuesday as they took out their son to a Los Angeles park.
Speaking to TMZ, the 26-year-old's mother Susan Duff said that the break up was the only way the couple could remain friends. "They're better friends than a married couple."
Previous reports had hinted that the couple was facing trouble and even attended couples therapy sessions but it appears that the help didn't work out in favour of the duo.
