Eva Holland from Cincinnati in Ohio, USA has become an Internet sensation after she posed for a photo with her children, Lucas and Ava, near her late husband Mike Settles' coffin. The photo - in which the trio is seen smiling near the coffin - posted on her Facebook profile with a detailed message, has gone viral with more than 2,70,000 people sharing it.
Settles, who was just 26-year-old, died on 2 September after an apparent heroin overdose in Cincinnati. Holland says she shared the photo online to show the reality of addiction, hoping to save others.
"I'm sure this photo makes a lot of people uncomfortable it may even piss a few people off but the main reason I took it was to show the reality of addiction. This was preventable it didn't have to happen but one wrong choice destroyed his family. I know a lot of people may be upset I'm putting it out in the open like This but hiding the facts is only going to keep this epidemic going. The cold hard truth is heroin kills," she writes.
The couple were together for 11 years. Holland remembers Settles as a man with great hopes, dreams, and who was a great son, brother, friend and a father.
"I was there before it all started. I knew what he wanted out of this life, all his hopes and dreams. He never would've imagined his life would turn out this way. But as we all know sometimes life gets tough and we make some wrong choices. His addiction started off with pain pills then inevitably heroin," she added.
After the post went viral, she even shared how it helped a woman, who was also addicted to heroin.
"A lady ran up to me crying and asked if she could hug me. I thought she was just having a bad day so I hugged her. She said "I am a heroin addicted and was going to try and overdose last night but then I seen your post and you saved my life. I can never thank you enough!", she posted on Saturday.
