Hero MotoCorp's Splendor motorcycle retained the title of best selling two-wheeler in the country despite having a stiff competition from Honda's Activa scooter range in the financial year 2016-17.
According the data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufactures (SIAM), Hero's Splendor commuter motorcycle range that consist of Splendor+, Splendor Pro, Splendor Pro Classic and Splendor iSmart found 24,86,065 takers in FY2016 to reach the top spot. However, the sales saw 1.2 percent decline in comparison to the 2,517,189 units sold in financial year 2014-15, reports ET Auto.
Hot on the heels of Splendor is the Honda's workhorse, the Activa. The Activa range that consist of 110cc version and 125cc version found 24,66,350 takers in the last fiscal. The scooter range also registered 13.2 percent growth over the FY 2014-15 in which 21,78,227 units were sold. The wafer thin 19,715 units difference between the sale of the Splendor and the Activa makes it clear Hero will have to sweat more to retain the position at the end of the current financial year.
Hero' HF Deluxe and Passion brand of motorcycles captured the third and fourth best selling two-wheelers spots, respectively, in FY 2016. The HF Deluxe attracted 11,48,254 buyers, while the Passion found 11,39,576 takers. Honda's CB Shine was the fifth best selling model with 7,98,699 units sold. It was followed by TVS XL Super moped with 7,23,767 units in sales. Hero Glamour motorcycle came at the seventh place (6,79,147 units), while Bajaj's top selling model Pulsar range got sales of 6,18,371 units, followed by another Bajaj model, the CT 100 (5,90,067 units).
Last on the grid was TVS' Jupiter, which stood as the second best selling scooter after Honda Activa. The Chennai-based manufacturer registered 5,37,451 unit in sales for the Jupiter, marking a 42 percent increase in sales over FY 2014-15.
