Bollywood movie "Hero", which opened to an overwhelming response on Friday, continued to do good business at ticket counters on Saturday. It collected Rs 17.54 crore at the worldwide box office in two days.
Produced by Salman Khan and Subhash Ghai, "Hero" is a remake of the 1983 Hindi romantic action film. It has been creating positive buzz in the media for a long time. Having had huge hype and promotions, the movie was released in 2,000 screens in the domestic market and 500 screens in the international markets.
"Hero" debuted with a good response and collected Rs 6.85 crore at the Indian box office on the first day. The movie, which marks the debut of Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty, smashed the opening day record of Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon's debut movie "Heropanthi", which had collected Rs 6.63 crore at the domestic box office on the first day.
Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#Hero Fri Rs 6.85 cr. India biz... Very good for a film starring newcomers... Biz will need to grow on Sat and Sun for a strong wknd total."
After seeing the overwhelming positive response, trade pundits in B-Town predicted that "Hero" would show a big leap on Saturday, but it failed to live up to their calculations. Instead of growing, its business dipped by around 3 percent. On its second day, the Nikhil Advani-directed film collected Rs 6.62 crore, taking its two-day domestic total collection to Rs 13.47 crore.
Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#Hero biz doesn't witness growth on Sat. However, Sun should witness an escalation in biz. Fri 6.85 cr, Sat 6.62 cr. Total: Rs 13.47 cr."
"Hero" also got a fantastic opening in the international markets. It collected Rs 2.32 crore ($350,000) at the overseas box office on the first day. Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#Hero - Overseas - Thu+Fri: $ 350,000 [Rs 2.32 cr]. Very good!"
If we are to go by early trends, the movie is estimated to have grossed Rs 1.85 crore at the overseas box office on its second day, taking its approximate international total collection to Rs 4.17 crore. Its two-day global total stands at Rs 17.64 crore.
