Hero MotoCorp, India's largest two-wheeler maker, introduced its all new Splendor iSmart motorbike with a price tag of ₹47,250 (ex-showroom Delhi).
The Splendor iSmart, which comes equipped with stop-and-start i3S technology, was first showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo 2014. The i3S technology automatically shuts the engine when idling and turns it on when needed with just one click.
The bike comes with 100-cc air-cooled, 4-Stroke Single Cylinder OHC engine, which can churn out a power of 5.74 KW (7.8 Ps) at 7500 rpm and maximum torque of 0.82 Kg-m (8.04 N-M) @ 4500 rpm. The company will offer the new bike in four colour variants - Sports Red, Leaf Green, Excellent Blue and Heavy Grey.
"Delivering on our commitment to bring revolutionary technologies that will transform the two-wheeler market, we have launched Splendor iSmart which is a great combination of style, performance and safety. Our customers will love the new i3S technology which makes this motorcycle truly smart, giving them more for every drop of fuel. We have applied for a patent for this technology which may be later extended to several other models," said Anil Dua, Sr. Vice President (Marketing & Sales), Hero MotoCorp at the launch.
At the Auto Expo, Hero had showcased diesel-electric hybrid concept RNT, Hero Xtreme, Hero Dash, Hero's indigenously developed concept hybrid scooter Leap, Hero HX250R sports bike and the scooters - 150cc ZIR and 125cc Dare.
In February, Hero had announced a price cut on all its models, after the proclamation of excise duty relief to the automobile industry in interim budget 2014-15. With the price cut, Honda's Dream Neo 110cc bike, which is priced at ₹43,150 and ₹47,289, comes cheaper by ₹1,600. While the company's CBR250R benefited a reduction of up to ₹7,600. Hero's bikes like Karizma ZMR, Impulse, Splendor and Glamour got a price cut of up to ₹4,500.
