Hero MotoCorp inaugurated its 'Global Centre of Innovation and Technology' (CIT) in Jaipur, Rajasthan on Thursday, March 10. Built with an investment of Rs 850 crore, the facility has state-of-the-art laboratories and design studios under one roof.
The 247-acre campus of the CIT also gets 16 kilometre-long tracks with 45 different surfaces and includes a sculpted tower that contains studio spaces for designers and engineers. The centre, which will accommodate over 500 automotive experts, will be headed by Markus Braunsperger, chief technology officer.
"The CIT is the new home of our R&D team and the commencement of operations here is a major milestone in our endeavour to ramp-up the product development competency to global standards at Hero. Within this facility we are establishing new work processes and enhancing our technical skills to global benchmarks. We will compete globally, attracting the best talent from India and across the world. The CIT will become a unique workplace for engineering talent in India, bringing our R&D Vision to life – energising smart mobility technology," said Markus Braunsperger, CTO, Hero MotoCorp, in a statement.
The new Global Innovation Centre and R&D of Hero in Jaipur will play an important role in the development of the company's future models. Hero's currently facilities include Gurgaon, Daruhera, Haridwar and Neemrana.
The new research and development campus, designed by William McDonough + Partners, also houses all aspects of research and development, including new product design, prototype manufacturing and testing and validation.
