It looks like 125cc scooter segment is heating up again with the new Hero model getting ready to hit the market this year. If emerging reports are to be believed, Hero MotoCorp is developing a 125cc scooter for the India market to challenge Honda Activa 125.
A latest report of MotorOctane revealed that Hero will roll out a new Maestro 125 scooter reportedly called Hero Maestro Edge by mid-2015. If this rings right, Maestro Edge will mark Hero's entry into a burgeoning 125cc segment.
Going by the latest report, Maestro Edge will be powered by an air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that can generate about 1bhp more than the current maestro version. The engine is speculated to come mated to CVT (continuous variable transmission) and will be offered in two variants - with and without disc brake.
Visually, Hero Maestro Edge is likely to retain the style and design of the exiting model, but with premium features like alloy wheels. Other details of the scooter are scanty at this point of time. When launched, Hero Maestro Edge will be pitted against Honda Activa 125, Suzuki Swish 125 and Mahindra Rodeo.
As we already know, Hero is also getting ready to launch its new Dash scooter. Hero's 110cc scooter Dash has been in the news for quite a while. Spied quite a few times already, Hero Dash is likely to be 1,850mm in length, 822mm in width and 1,270mm in width. Power is likely to come from a 111cc 4-stroke, air-cooled engine, which can churn out a power of 8.44bhp and a peak toque of 9.4Nm.
