After the boom in the 110cc segment, the scooter segment of India is now focussing on the 125cc segment. Honda had launched Grazia and TVS had launched Ntorq in the 125cc scooter segment and both turned out runaway success.
The positive response is now prompting more players to the segment and the latest to join will be Hero MotoCorp.
Hero MotoCorp had revealed its new 125cc scooter twins -- Maestro Edge 125 and Duet 125 -- at the Auto Expo 2018 in February. The names are not new as Hero MotoCorp already sells 110cc versions of the Maestro Edge and Duet in India. However, emerging reports indicate that the company has decided to rename the Duet 125 as Destini 125 to give it a separate stance.
A leaked image posted by Gaadiwaadi shows Duet 125 with Destini 125. Hero MotoCorp will launch Duet 125/Destini 125 by September, according to Livemint. The Maestro Edge 125 is also expected to be launched but it is not clear that the model will get a separate name.
Hero Duet 125/Destini 125 will be a metal body scooter and will come with a premium chrome chest (beading) on the apron, signature tail lamp and winkers, bold chrome strips, body coloured mirrors and dual tone seat cover. The scooter will also flaunt premium additions such as side stand indicator, service reminder, pass switch, external fuel filling, boot lamp and mobile charging unit.
Hero Duet 125/Destini 125 will draw power from a new 125cc Energy Boost engine, producing a power output of 8.7bhp at 6,750rpm and maximum torque of 10.2Nm at 5,000rpm. For enhanced fuel efficiency, the scooter will come with i3S (Idle-stop-start system).
It will be the first scooter of Hero to get this technology. Hero MotoCorp also claims that the Duet 125 will offer superior road safety with integrated braking system.
Hero MotoCorp will offer the Duet 125/Destini 125 in four colour options -- Noble Red, Chestnut Bronze, Panther Black and Pearl Silver White. The scooter is expected to be priced around Rs 62,000 (ex-showroom).
Hero Duet 125/Destini 125 will also pose challenges to Suzuki Burgman Street and Aprilia SR 125.
