Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty starrer "Hero" had a decent opening weekend at the domestic box office. The romantic film, directed by Nikhil Advani and produced by Salman Khan, has minted Rs 21.20 crore in its opening weekend.
"#Hero has a GOOD opening weekend, with biz stabilising on Sunday. Fri 6.85 cr, Sat 6.62 cr, Sun 7.73 cr. Total: ₹ 21.20 cr. India biz," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The film, which marks the Bollywood debut of Sooraj and Athiya, had a decent start, but the collection dropped on its second day in India. However, on Sunday the business went up by more than 15 percent following which it minted Rs 7.73 crore.
The overall opening weekend box office collection of "Hero", considering that it features newcomers, but trade analysts expected a good box office return as it was promoted heavily by Salman.
"The business of 'Hero' is not up to the mark. The collections from Friday to Saturday and Sunday is not huge. The film review is average. On the other hand 'Welcome Back' has done good business in its 2nd Weekend," distributor Ajay Pal told Koimoi.com.
"'Hero' has done a decent average business in its 1st weekend but more was expected from this film. It had a strong competition with 'Welcome Back', which is still doing good business at the box office," another distributor told the trade website.
The business of "Hero" is in the same range as Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon's debut film "Heropanti". But "Heropanti" was backed by positive reviews, whereas "Hero" reviews were average to negative.
Now it remains to be whether "Hero" will continue its good box office run and earn more than Rs 50 crore like "Heropanti" or weekdays fever will affect its dream run in India.
