 Women often gain weight after marriage and it is considered to be a sign of good health. There is a popular belief that regular sex is the reason behind the sudden weight gain. But that's not true.

There are no studies that claim that breasts or butt grow bigger or change shape because of regular sex life. Hence, sex is not considered the reason behind gaining weight post marriage.

"There is no physiological reason why the breasts or hips should become enlarged or disfigured after a woman starts having sex. There is no way that ejaculated semen can get digested and assimilated in the bloodstream. And, in any case, 2-3 ml of semen (average ejaculation) contains only about 15 calories!" said Dr Asha Jain, a gynaecologist, as reported by TOI.

As the day to tie the knot gets closer, women often start working out to shed weight and get an attractive figure, but their working out session tend to stop after they are married. This is one of the causes women tend to gain back some weight.

Eating habit of people also tend to change after marriage. In India,  the newlywed often visit their relatives who make them binge eat. This is considered to be one of the causes why women tend to gain weight after  wedding.

An article called 'Health Psychology', which was published in 2013 even proves that the couple who feel secure, loved and happy are likely to gain more weight after marriage.

It's not just women who gain weight after marriage, men too are found to turn heftier. A study even found that in the first five years of marriage, women gained 24 pounds while men gained 30 pounds.
