The stupendous box office figures that Aamir Khan's Dangal amassed in China have already proved the frenzy that it created in the country. Now, the movie has won accolades from none other than Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The conversation about Dangal took place between the leaders after their discussion on improving India-China relations concluded. It was revealed to the media by foreign secretary S Jaishankar.
Dangal, released in China on May 5, shattered several records at the country's box office, and has collected over Rs 1,100 crore as of now. It is currently the highest grossing non-Hollywood film in the country.
The film has also created history by entering the list of China's top 20 highest-grossing movies, Forbes reported. It has kicked out Operation Mekong, the 2016 Hong Kong-China action film, from the number 20 rank to grab the spot.
Released as Shuai Jiao Baba (Let's Wrestle, Dad) across 7,000 screens, Aamir's film is inspired by the real-life story of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who trains his daughters to become champion wrestlers.
Elated with the massive success of Dangal in China box office, Aamir recently told IANS: "While we were hoping that Dangal connects with the people of China, not in our wildest dreams we thought that this is the kind of connect we would have. It was unprecedented. We are pleasantly surprised." The superstar's previous films, PK and 3 Idiots, had also performed extremely well in China.
