Hrithik Roshan's "Thug" will roll out in September this year and the makers are on the lookout for a leading lady. To be helmed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, the film will be an action-thriller.
"Thug" apparently borrows from Philip Meadows Taylor's best-selling English novel "Confession of a Thug," published in 1839, Catch News reported. The book is set in the 1932s and follows the thuggee cult of British India closely. However, the makers have kept the look and feel of the film modern and it only takes cues from the central theme of the book.
This is in stark contrast to what was being reported so far. "Thug" was said to be inspired by Johnny Depp's "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise. However, sources in the know have denied the news saying Hrithik's is an action-adventure film and in no way similar to the Hollywood blockbuster.
The film with Hrithik is not as reported. It is not on the lines of Pirates of the Caribbean. The film has all elements like drama, action, humour, romance, song. It's an action adventure film," an insider told the Press Trust of India.
Although makers are yet to lock a leading lady for "Thug," rumours are rife that Deepika Padukone may be the one. A source told DNA that the director is keen on roping in the "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage" star and believes that she will do a good job.
In other news, Hrithik will kick off full-fledged promotions of "Mohenjo Daro" in a few days. The period film opens in theatres on Aug.12, same day as Akshay Kumar's "Rustom." Also, he has wrapped a few schedules of his next, "Kaabil," with Yami Gautam.
