Rumours swirling around had indicated a discord between The Vampire Diaries actor Ian Somerhalder and wife Nikki Reed were on the brink of divorce, and that the main issue between them was Somerhalder's ex Nina Dobrev's return to the vampire drama.
If Dobrev returns, then she will definitely share screen space with Somerhalder as they play lovers Elena and Damon. Reportedly, Reed was scared that this would rekindle their romance. But it looks like they have sorted out their differences.
On Wednesday, Reed and Somerhalder put to rest these divorce rumours by indulging in public display of affection while on a shopping trip. Somerhalder was seen wrapping his arm around Reed after they picked up goodies at John Varvatos.
As for Dobrev's return to The Vampire Diaries, nothing has been confirmed. But CW president Mark Pedowitz confirmed that they were in talks to bring Dobrev back so as to wrap up Elena Gilbert's storyline.
Executive producer Julie Plec too confirmed during the San Diego Comic-Con that she wanted to bring back Dobrev before the show wrapped up. "Not to put too much pressure on anything Nina Dobrev..but a promise was made. An emotional promise that I'd like to see come to life. You heard it here…there's been friendship promises made, and now we'll see if we can deliver on them," she said at the time.
As fans of the vampire drama know, Elena is currently in a magically induced sleep, thanks to Kai, who linked her life to Bonnie's in such a way that Elena will not wake up as long as Bonnie lived. If Dobrev returns, then it's a given that Bonnie, the character essayed by Kat Graham, will die. But fans are hoping that Alaric's babies, the Gemini twins, will be able to work around the spell their evil uncle cast on Elena and bring her back without Bonnie dying.
The Vampire Diaries will return to CW in October.
