After a delay of two months, Apple finally put wireless Airpods up for sale last week and delivery has slowly commenced in the United States, New Zealand, Australia and select markets across the world.
The Bluetooth-based earphones are different compared to rival brands and houses the company's proprietary W1 chip. Optical sensors and motion accelerometers work with the W1 chip to automatically control the audio and engage the microphone, giving you the ability to use one or both AirPods.
On the other hand, in wireless earphones offered by competitors, only one among the two earpods receive direct signal from the media player (or phones), while the second one receives audio from the primary earpiece.
Here's how to set up Apple AirPods connection to iPhones, iPads and Macbooks:
Prerequisite: AirPods are compatible only with Apple devices running iOS 10.1 or later version.
Step 1: Press the Home button to unlock your iPhone screen.
Step 2: Open the case—with your AirPods inside—and hold it next to your iPhones.
Step 3: A set up animation appears on your iPhone.
Step 4: Tap Connect, then tap Done.
[Note: If you're signed in to iCloud, your AirPods are set up automatically with any of your supported devices that are signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID and also make sure AirPods are fully charged]
To set up AirPods with a non-Apple device that isn't logged in to your iCloud account, follow these steps:
Step 1: Put the AirPods in the case.
Step 2: Open the lid.
Step 3: Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case until you see the status light flash white.
Step 4: Follow the steps to set up a Bluetooth device as said on the screen and you are good to go.
[Note: Non-Apple device owners will be able to use voice-control commands to operate AirPods, as it is only compatible with Apple Siri digital assistant only]
