A 22-year-old gym trainer in Bengaluru was arrested after he killed a delivery person from Flipkart who had come to hand over a smartphone on December 9. The body of the 29-year-old delivery man, Nanjundaswamy, was found with his throat slit.
The trainer, Varun Kumar, had recently joined the gym and saw several of his colleagues using smartphones, following which he begged his father to buy one for him too. But his father refused, saying that Kumar would have to earn to buy one himself.
Even though Kumar couldn't afford to buy the smartphone, he ordered one online and gave the address of the gym for delivery. According to the police, Kumar attacked Nanjundaswamy with an iron rod and a flower pot, due to which he fell unconscious. Kumar then slit his throat and hid his body in the basement.
Kumar allegedly kept the smartphone worth almost Rs 12,000 that he had ordered online with himself and also stole the other smartphones in Nanjundaswamy's bag.
Nanjundaswamy's family filed a missing report when he didn't return home for two days.
The police found his body in the basement cellar of the gym upon tracking the location where he made his last delivery. The trail led to Kumar who had shut the gym following the crime. The police arrested him earlier this week.
According to the police, the gym trainer had planned the murder because he had sneaked a kitchen knife into the gym a day before the delivery was supposed to take place. The police is currently trying to find out whether anyone assisted Kumar with the murder.
NDTV quoted a Flipkart spokesperson as saying that the deceased worked for an agency that delivers products for the company, and that financial assistance would be given to his family.
