The Rajasthan Police on Friday arrested the driver of BJP parliamentarian Hema Malini for rash driving that resulted into the death of a five-year-old girl.
The Mathura MP's driver, Mahesh Thakur (35), was arrested from Jaipur after the minor's father, Hanuman Choudhary, filed an FIR against him in Dausa.
"He has been booked under Sections 279, 337, 338 (causing grievous hurt by rash and negligent driving) and 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code," investigating officer Rajendra Tyagi told The Indian Express.
Thakur has been taken to Dausa police sation for interrogation.
"We are questioning the driver to ascertain finer details," Dausa additional SP Anil Kayal said.
The accident
The fatal accident took place on national highway 11 in Dausa district of Rajasthan on Thursday night. The Mercedes, in which Malini was going to Jaipur from Mathura, collided with an Alto car on Dausa bypass road.
The actor-turned-politician suffered injuries on her head and was rushed to Jaipur's Fortis Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. Another person travelling with Malini was also admitted to the hospital with minor injuries.
In the other car, five -year-old Sonam died on the spot. Her parents, six-year-old brother Soumil and another woman were injured in the accident.
Soumil has been admitted to the ICU of Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur and is said to be in a critical condition, the India Today reported.
Two other injured people from the smaller car were being treated at a hospital in Dausa.
