Chennaiites have been struggling with the incessant rain that has been plaguing Tamil Nadu for weeks.
Popular telecom operator Airtel has announced free talktime and Internet for its prepaid customers, and e-commerce shopping website Paytm has offered free recharge. Some social media users have come forward to help the stranded people by offering to recharge their mobile accounts.
Phoenix Malls in Velachery, Sathyam Cinemas in Royapettah, Ragavendra wedding hall, Hotel Gokulam Park, Jawaharlal Nehru Road in Ashok Nagar, Marundeeswarar kalyana mandapam in Anakaputhur, SRM College in Kattankulathur and Crescent College in Vandalur provide shelter for stranded people.

The heavy rain has also hit Chennai airport and railway stations, which are waterlogged and their operations closed for now.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured the Central government's support in Chennai. "Spoke to Jayalalithaa ji on the flood situation in parts of Tamil Nadu. Assured all possible support & cooperation in this unfortunate hour (sic)," he tweeted.
While actor Siddharth has been supporting the stranded people in Chennai, actress Kaniha has evacuated with her family. She has also shared the photos and videos of the flood affected area on her Facebook page.
