The South Indian state Kerala is all set to have its first metro service in Kochi and all the mandatory safety certificates have been received for the commencement of its commercial operations soon. Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is said to be the fastest metro project to get the clearance certificates in the country.
"The first phase of Kochi Metro Project is the first of its kind to get the fastest clearance compared to other metro projects in India. It's so overwhelming to share with you that Kochi Metro is also the first metro in India to cover a longest distance of 13 km in its first phase," said Elias George IAS, MD of KMRL.
The authorities have also requested Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to flag off the Aluva-Palarivattom corridor, and the inauguration date will be announced considering the availability of the PM. It is understood that the full fledged service will be open for public likely by second week of June.
On Wednesday, May 10, the trial run of four metro rakes began at 6 am from Aluva and is expected to conclude at 9:30 pm. As of now, a total of 11 stations have been constructed in the 13-km stretch, while 14 more stations will be added in the second phase of extension towards Thripunithura.
