Ajay Devgn's "Shivaay" was ruling the digital world until "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" teaser was released on Tuesday. Although buzz-wise the epic action-adventure film is ahead of the Karan Johar-directorial, the gap has shrunk.
The "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" teaser has garnered over nine million hits on YouTube and Facebook combined in a little over 24 hours. "Shivaay," on the other hand, garnered 12 million views in three days for its action-packed trailer on the mentioned platforms; the trailer crossed 25 million mark on its 10th day.
Although, this doesn't really prove if one has lost to the other, it is a clear indication that "ADHM" is catching up slowly but steadily with the hype generated by "Shivaay."
Also, this isn't really an apples to apples comparison because "ADHM" has, so far, a minute-long teaser and a few introductory stills to its credit, whereas Ajay put out a full-fledged trailer of "Shivaay," behind-the-scenes footage and chilling first-look posters.
Why clicking with the audience at the initial stages of promotions matters? "Shivaay" and "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" are gearing up for a colossal box office battle, starting Oct. 28. They are both big-ticket films and therefore, need to click with the viewers.
Here are a few reasons working in favour of the films
"Shivaay" is Ajay's second directorial venture and it's laden with stylishly choreographed action sequences and dotted with picturesque frames. Another plus that'll help draw audiences is its mysterious trailer, which offers so much and yet never really reveals the crux of the story.
The central cast of "ADHM" — Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anushka Sharma and Fawad Khan — is a big draw. Also, in Karan's words, it is a story about "One sided love...deep friendship and heartbreak," something that no one tells better than he does.
