Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer "Happy New Year" has underperformed in its opening weekend at the overseas box office.
The first weekend overseas total of the film is less than his last release "Chennai Express" and Aamir Khan's film "Dhoom 3" in international arena. "Happy New Year" collected approximately $5 million from overseas box office in its opening weekend.
The overseas box office performance is a little lower than anticipated, considering the fact that it is Shah Rukh's film, who delivers a massive fan-following overseas.
Besides, the movie was promoted heavily in the US-Canada and the UK region, but the outcome is not as expected.
In its opening weekend, the film minted ₹5.59 crore (£ 568,183) from UK-Ireland box office, ₹2.05 crore (A$ 380,115) from Australia, New Zealand ₹73.02 lakh (NZ$ 151,555) and Malaysia ₹27.66 lakh (MYR 147,898), according to Bollywood Hungama.
Aamir's "Dhoom 3" remains on top in Australia and New Zealand box offices with its opening weekend total. While in New Zealand, the film came at second position, in Australia it came at seventh position.
The US-Canada, UAE-GCC and Pakistan's box office income is yet not updated. But the film is expected to earn huge earnings from these three markets as SRK has huge fan-following in all the three regions.
Meanwhile, in India it has shattered all the records till now and became the fastest film to earn ₹108 crore in just three days. After bringing in record-breaking collection on opening day, the film achieved a fresh record of highest opening weekend grosser film.
