"Happy New Year" (HNY) has crushed the box office record of Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone's last release.
The debut week box office collection of "Happy New Year" has shattered the records of Shah Rukh's last release "Chennai Express", according to Bollywood Hungama.
SRK-Deepika's "Chennai Express" had raked in around ₹156.7 crore (including paid preview) in the debut week, while "Happy New Year" minted ₹157.57 crore.
"Happy New Year" recorded the second highest opening week collection this year, after Salman Khan's "Kick" which brought in ₹164.09 crore. The musical heist drama has also grabbed the fourth position in the opening week list.
But Farah Khan's directorial film failed to beat "Dhoom 3" foremost week total, despite having a humongous start. "HNY" managed to beat the opening day and debut weekend total of Aamir Khan's "Dhoom 3", but the collection of the film declined during the weekdays.
In the top 10 list Aamir has one film (Dhoom 3), while Shah Rukh and Hrithik Roshan have two films "Chennai Express" and"Happy New Year" and "Krrish 3" and "Bang Bang" respectively.
Salman Khan is dominating the list with three films "Kick", "Ek Tha Tiger" and "Bodyguard".
