Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone's "Happy New Year" (HNY) has finally attained the ₹200 crore mark at the domestic box office.
The musical heist drama took 19 days to enter the much-hyped ₹200 crore club in India. While this is quite an achievement, looking at the opening day and debut week's figure, the film achieved the target very late.
The film was expected to cross the ₹200 crore mark by the second week and beat Salman Khan's "Kick" by third week. But since it took so long to enter the double century mark, it won't be wrong to say that "Happy New Year" won't be able to beat "Kick".
Meanwhile, it has become the sixth Bollywood film to enter the elite club. The first five films are "Dhoom 3", "Krrish 3", "Kick", "Chennai Express" and "3 Idiots".
"Happy New Year" is Shah Rukh, Deepika, Boman Irani and Abhishek Bachchan's second film to cross the ₹200 crore mark, while Farah Khan's first directorial film to achieve the feat.
Shah Rukh-Deepika's last year released film "Chennai Express" earned ₹227.13 crore, Abhishek's "Dhoom 3" earned ₹284.27 crore and it is still the highest grosser Bollywood film, while Boman's "3 Idiots" was the first film to enter the club by collection ₹202 crore.
With "Happy New Year", Farah has become the first female director to enter the elite club. Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah are also the new entries into the ₹200 crore club.
"Happy New Year" next target is to cross beat Aamir Khan's "3 Idiots", but it remains to be seen whether it make it to the target with new releases coming in.
