One-week-old release "Happy New Year" starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles, has made superb collections at the box office and set several new benchmarks in the first week of its release. However, the movie has failed to beat 10 important business records held by "Dhoom 3", "Krrish 3", "Kick" and "Chennai Express".
1. All time highest grosser in the first week in India
"Happy New Year", which has collected ₹157.57 crore at the Indian box office in the first week, has failed to smash the record of Aamir Khan's "Dhoom 3", which had raked in ₹188.99 crore in its opening week.
2. All time highest grosser in the first week during Diwali season
"Happy New Year" could not beat the record of 2013 Diwali release "Krrish 3", which had raked in ₹166.52 crore in the domestic market in the first week of its release.
3. Highest grosser in the first week in 2014
"Happy New Year" has fallen short of more than ₹6 crore in shattering the record of Salman Khan's 2014 release "Kick", which has grossed ₹164.09 crore at the domestic box office in its opening week.
4. Highest grosser at overseas box office in opening weekend
"Happy New Year" has grossed approximately ₹49.8 crore ($8.1 million) at the overseas box office in its opening weekend, but has failed to smash the record of "Dhoom 3", which had collected approximately ₹62.95 crore ($10.17 million) in the international markets.

"Happy New Year" has also failed to beat Shah Rukh Khan's previous record set by his last outing "Chennai Express", which had minted $8.5 million at the international box office in the first weekend.

"Happy New Year" has minted ₹5.59 crore (£ 568,183) from 100 screens at the UK box office in its opening weekend, but could not cross the benchmark created by "Dhoom 3", which had collected ₹8.95 crore (£ 884,567) from 97 screens in the country.

"Happy New Year" has grossed ₹2.05 crore (A$ 380,115) from 30 screens at the Australian box office in the first weekend and fallen flat in smashing the record of "Dhoom 3", which had raked in ₹3.85 crore (A$ 695,782) 30 screens in the country.

"Happy New Year" has grossed ₹73.02 lakh (NZ$ 151,555) from 12 screens in New Zealand box office in its opening weekend and failed to beat the record of "Dhoom 3", which had minted ₹1.11 crore (NZ$ 217,923) from 19 screens in the country.
10. Highest grosser in second weekend in India
"Happy New Year" has raked in ₹22.23 crore at the Indian box office in the second weekend, but failed to beat the records of "Kick", "Dhoom 3" and "Krrish 3", which had collected ₹34.02 crore, ₹38.85 crore and ₹39.74 crore respectively in the domestic market.
