India is celebrating Mahatma Gandhi's 147th birth anniversary on 2 October. The non-violence follower had a big part to play to make our country free.
The simple-looking man shook the Britishers to the core, but without any violence. On 2 October every year, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi's birth anniversary is celebrated with great fervour.
Though it is considered as a national holiday, several schools and colleges organise cultural programmes to pay a tribute to this legend.
Popularly known as the "Father of the Nation", his birth anniversary is also celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence worldwide, as announced by UN General Assembly.
Gandhi. also known as Bapu, died on 30 January when a Hindu nationalist, Nathuram Godse, shot him.
However, he is still remembered by his well-wishers.
To commemorate the day, Bollywood celebs have wished 'Happy Gandhi Jayanti' on their Twitter handles.

We call him Mahatma n put him on a mantlepiece. And comfortably separate ourselves from him. Rather than follow his example. #GandhiJayanti — Shekhar Kapur (@shekharkapur) October 2, 2015
