The United States Independence Day, also known as Fourth of July, is celebrated on July 4 every year to commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence of the country from Great Britain in 1776. The year 2016 marks the 240th year of Independence of the country.
The day is being observed as a federal holiday throughout the country to honour the contributions of martyrs to the country. Americans spend the day with celebrations and the day is known for its colourful Fourth of July fireworks and parades in all the major cities.
