Lord Hanuman is one of the most popular characters in Indian mythology. He is worshipped for his devotion towards Lord Rama and for the strength that he possessed.
Like any other Gods of Indian mythology, people celebrate his birthday as Hanuman Jayanthi. It is celebrated on the 15th day of the Shukla Pakshain in the month of Chaitra (the Chaitra Pournimaa) and this year it has fallen on Saturday, 4 April.
However, in some places like Tamil Nadu and Kerala, the Hanuman Jayanthi is celebrated in the month of Margazhi as some texts say that he was born on the new moon day in the month of Margazhi. Whereas in Orissa, people celebrate the day on the first day of Vaisakha month.
